Last June 9, 2010, some members of the UP Linux Users’ Group went to ABS-CBN Studio 6 to attend an episode for a new ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel) show, Future Perfect. The show featured Halalan, the open source voting system currently maintained by our organization. As the current president (UnPLUG term: BD), I made sure that I’ll be able to join the group.
Our journey to the ABS-CBN Studios wasn’t easy. While we’re waiting for a taxi, my tsinelas(slippers) said its goodbye to me. And it took us half an hour to finally ride a taxi. After the long wait, we finally came at the ABS-CBN compound. They have a good security system, congrats!
While waiting four our turn, we stayed in front of Studio 6 and took some pictures of the “delegates”. Before we they let us in, I was asked to go to the dressing room and they put some make-up on my face. Hmm… And finally, we were inside the Studio. This is where I met Mr. Dino Orig.
I found out from Mr. Orig that he is an alumnus of UP CURSOR, the UP Association of Computer Science Majors. He joined the organization in 1991, during his freshman year in the university. Wow, I feel so honored to meet one of the earliest alumni of CURSOR.
The shoot started smoothly, but I have to admit that it wasn’t easy for me because the medium of communication needed in the show was the English Language. My friends know well that I fear speaking in English. It was felt in my answers on Tony Velasquez’ (the host of the show) questions that I’m feeling a bit uneasy. I’m just thankful I survived the whole question and answer part. We were asked to proceed to the news room because they also want to get screen shots of the actual voting process of Halalan. Mr. Orig was the one who handled this “shoot” so I had the opportunity to interview him. I found out more things about CURSOR from him, yey! Because of my stalking tendencies, I wasn’t fulfilled with knowing him personally, so I did my research. I found out that he won 1st runner-up of Miss Engineering during the 90s and that he was part of the different anime shows of ABS-CBN. I feel happier now, meeting people like Mr. Dino Orig inspires me to strive better. They prove to me that success can be achieved if you’ll just work for it. Thanks Mr. Orig! I’m proud to meet you, who is Sexy since 1991.
P.S. The show will be aired this Friday, 7:00 PM only in ANC!

UP Diliman Computerized Student Council Elections
